Medicare Season is Almost Here!

The Medicare Annual Election Period (AEP) or Open Enrollment is rapidly approaching. This is the time each year in which you can enroll in a Medicare Advantage, Prescription Drug Plan, or switch from your current plan.

The Annual Election Period/Open Enrollment period begins on November 15 and ends on December 31 of each calendar year. You will be locked into your choice for the following year unless you have a Special Enrollment Period due to certain circumstances.

 

When will my coverage begin?

 

If you enroll between November 15 and December 31 your Medicare coverage will begin on the following January 1 and will continue for the entire year.

If you have been dis-enrolled from your Medicare Advantage plan, now is the time to act!

Approximately $60 billion dollars has been cut from Medicare Advantage. Additionally, PFFS plans are being phased out. This means that there will be fewer Medicare Advantage plans to choose from AND many people will likely be dis-enrolled from their current plan. Why should I review my plan each year?

Medicare legislation has been very fluid resulting in changes on a yearly basis. One plan may be good fit this year and because of network changes, not as good choice for the upcoming year. Another example would be when you have a change in your prescriptions. Different companies cover the same prescriptions at, sometimes, drastically different rates. This could mean the difference between hitting the "Donut Hole" and paying predictable copays for the upcoming year.
